An agreement
The Joint Study Program is a program offered by AutoDesSys, the makers of formZ, which allows educational institutions to license the softare annually at reduced cost. The College of Architecture and Urban Planning is a participant in the Joint Study Program.
CAUP licenses
formZ is installed on CAUP-supported computers throughout the College. However, the licensing terms do not permit all of these copies to be used simultaneously, and they must be connected to the internet or they won't run. If more than the allowed number of licenses are in use, you might not be able to launch a fresh copy of the software. Similarly, if the network connection is lost for any reason, formZ will quit (though it will allow you to Save first).
Student Licenses (aka "Joint Study Extension Licenses")
As part of the Joint Study agreement, students are able to obtain reduced-cost annual personal licenses for the software (for use on a home computer, or a laptop disconnected from the network). This software can be downloaded directly from AutoDesSys after filling out a form and paying the (currently $40) license fee. Visit their web site to start the process.
A Principal Investigator
Part of the Joint Study agreement is that one member of the CAUP community serves as the "Principal Investigator". This year that person is Brian Johnson. If you have problems with the software, discover a "bug", or have suggestions for improvements, or want to submit some of your work for the annual report (see below), see Brian (brj@u.washington.edu).
Annual Report
Each year, as part of the Joint Study program, we submit a report about our use of the software, suggestions, etc. Included in this report are examples of student work. We always need more. PLEASE contact Brian if you've got some interesting work. Here's a sample page from the 2002-03 report.
